Rotary Club of Anuradhapura Champions Community Safety, Education, and Environmental Protection
The Rotary Club of Anuradhapura, in partnership with the Anuradhapura Municipal Council, has taken another step toward environmental protection by building and maintaining a plastic waste trap in Kubichchankulama Lake, helping to reduce pollution in the heart of the city.
In response to a request from District Governor Rtn. Sushena Ranatunga (Rotary 3220), members of Rotary District 2982 – India extended their support to uplift Sri Lankan schoolchildren by providing aid to improve their education and economic prospects. As part of this effort and the islandwide initiative to donate 2,500 bicycles, the second phase of the program was completed in Anuradhapura, where 50 bicycles were distributed to students and individuals in need at Kubichchankulam Park.
These efforts reflect Rotary’s ongoing mission to support communities and protect the environment. The Rotary Club of Anuradhapura remains committed to serving with compassion and purpose.
This project aims to strengthen the safety and security of both residents and travelers in the city. The completed checkpoint was officially handed over to the Anuradhapura Police on June 30th, during a ceremony attended by Mayor Navaratnaraja Karunaratna N. Karunaratna, SSP Thilina Hewa Pathirana, Police Officer in Charge of Mr. Jayaweera, police and railway officials, and members of the Rotary Club.
This effort reflects the Rotary Club’s continued dedication to meaningful social impact and community development in Anuradhapura and beyond.
